You Can Eat, Drink, Play Hard At Bao Box

NAIROBI, Kenya- In case you have friends and want to socialize, party and play, then look no further, Bao Box hotel located along the General Mathenge Drive in Westlands, Nairobi, has got you sorted.

The newly launched restaurant has a soothing ambiance, the serene atmosphere is heavenly, and it will definitely give you a run for your money.

The variety of cuisine served here is class and the drinks presented by the kind waiters will quench your thirst.

On your right, after the entrance is the digital table tennis court, the space is manned by Table Tennis Games Master Brenda Adongo, a lovely lady with a very huge smile.

Here, Adongo will help you to choose any of the four thrilling games that are on offer. You can play the Wildebeest Rescue, a challenge involving smashing the crocodiles with the ball to allow the migrating animals to cross the infested River Mara.

If you choose the Matatu Madness, you will have to hit the green circles on the surface of the board for the vehicle to pick the many waiting passengers on que.

The other interesting challenge is the Masai Defence where you have to rescue a running Maasai warrior being chased by aliens, your work is to demolish his chasers who are breathing on his neck.

Lastly, you can choose to play the normal table tennis game or the Free Play to help you while the time away.

“Our table tennis boards have sensors which detect where the ball has landed, you earn points when you land the ball on the intended targets,” Adongo told Standard Sports.

Right opposite the table tennis zone, when you cross the entertainment spot in the middle of the restaurant, is the Batfast. This section has three simulated games namely cricket, baseball and tennis.

The disciplines are handled by Batfast Games Master Kevin Mungai. The zone allows two players to compete at any given time. The duo can choose to play a single sport or can decide to switch from one discipline to another. They charge KSh 500 for a 15 minute session.

“The speed of the balls thrown by the simulator varies from the beginners, amateur, club and the professional levels. One can choose the kind of challenge that they want to engage in,” Mungai underlined.

According to Mungai, simulated games are very vital for players who are looking forward to taking their professional career to greater heights. It gives them an edge over their opponents in the near future.

A perfect example is the reigning World Rally Championship (WRC) winner Kalle Rovanpera who started his rallying career with simulators before he embarked on driving the real cars.

If you are a golf lover, then Bao Box has got you sorted in this sport. They have both real and simulated golf.

Real golf is played on a green, lush artificial nine hole mini course with breathtaking fairways to admire in the dazzling lights at night.

All the pin positions are named in accordanceb to the Kenyan theme,  with the exception of hole 1; The Great Rift valley (hole 2), Ngong Hills (hole 3), Mombasa Coastline (hole 4), Lunatic Express (hole 5), Mt. Kilimanjaro (hole 6), Mt. Longonot (hole 7), Lake Turkana (hole 8) and the Nairobi Expressway (hole 9).

“We charge KSh500 per head for the golf course, the fairways were constructed with the Kenyan theme in mind,” Samson Otieno Okeyo, the Mini Golf Games Master underscored.

According to Otieno, most players who throng the venue place wagers in order to make the contention serious and interesting.

“The good thing is that all these games can be played 24/7,” said Otieno.

In case one is not interested in the real course, then they can try the simulated golf charged KSh 2000 per hour and is played on a giant computerized screen. Six players are allowed at any given time.

Here, players have to hit the ball very hard on the displayed board that has sensors. Participants are allowed to come with irons and clubs of their choice. Music and drinks too are allowed while playing.

“This screen shows you how many yards your ball can travel, apart from golf you can also play simulated darts, balloon pop, gully and the splash wall on this board,” Rodger Mwangi, the Golf Games Master highlighted.

“The simulated dart games one can engage in include the Battery Battle, the Robot Surgery, the Contract Killer, and the Shanghai Dreams. Four players are allowed to compete at a time,” Mwangi stated.
