Junior Starlets Dominate Valencia, Set Date With Portugal, Intercity

ALICANTE, Spain– Junior Starlets are stepping up their pre-WorldCup training well in Spain ahead of their debut in the 2024 FIFA U17 Womens’ World Cup in Spain on October 16- November 3.
The team is scheduled to gauge themselves against Portugal in a friendly showdown on Friday before taking on the Intercity on Monday.
The two clashes come in the wake of a 4-1 thumping of València CF Women at the Ciudad Deportiva del València CF grounds on Wednesday night.
Valerie Nekesa opened the scoring for the Junior Starlets in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a perfectly timed pass from Halima Imbachi.
Nekesa doubled the lead in the 26th minute with a clever run, noticing the goalkeeper off her line and slotting in the second goal.
Just before half-time, Lindey Weey Atieno received a precise pass from Lornah Faith and calmly added the third goal, sending the Junior Starlets into the break with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Atieno struck again, netting her second goal of the match through a well-executed set piece in the 50th minute, bringing the scoreline to 4-0.

Valencia CF Women managed to pull one back in the 88th minute through a penalty, ending the match 4-1 in favor of Starlets.
The friendly games and the pre-training in Spain are vital for Starlets as they sharpen their tactics and build match fitness ahead of the Dominican Republic showdown where they are scheduled to face England on October 18,Korea DPR on October 20, and conclude their group stage matches against Mexico on October 24.
