Kenya Education Fund Annual Golf Tournament Attracts 200 Players

NAIROBI, Kenya- Over 200 golfers took part in the second edition of the Kenya Education Fund (KEF) Annual Golf Tournament held at the par 72 Karen Country Club in Nairobi on Friday.
The overall winner walked home with exciting prizes, among them a ticket for two to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Likewise, runners up also had a ticket for two to the Sarova Hotels, also in the Masai Mara.
Other prizes included a night for two at the exclusive Mutara Camp while others won various lunch and dinner vouchers.

The tournament targeted to raise Sh1.5 million to cater for education for underprivileged students across Kenya.
Home player James Kamiri who has engaged in the game for a decade and was among contestants who were out to look for glory in the tournament stated: ” I was inspired by my batch of four balls. I was out to play better today and hopefully lower my handicap. I’m happy to have taken part in this noble cause which aimed to raise funds for the students.”
KEF Pioneer and Executive Director, Dominic Muasya said they are using golf as a platform for the cause because it’s an easy avenue to sensitise people on the kind of work that they do.
While encouraging Kenyans to take up golf as a sport to fight lifestyle diseases, Muasya was happy with the turn out in the tournament, especially that of women, which surpassed the 108 golfers who attended the first edition held last year at Vet Lab Sports Club in Nairobi .
” The good number this season is a testament that people are increasingly becoming aware of our work which we have done for the past 19 years. Part of the future plan is to take the competition to the counties to inform more Kenyans of our job,” Muasya stated.

So far, over 4500 students have benefited from the KEF program. Currently, there are 607 students being sponsored with 161 Form One students joining the program this year.
Apart from paying school fees, KEF also mentor the students and offer them life skills and reproductive health lessons.
” We also teach them about career readiness because we want them to be successful and self reliant upon graduation. We are happy that our transition rate this year was hundred percent as all our students joined tertiary institutions,” Muasya underlined.
