James Mureu Triumphs At The 9th Edition Of The NCBA MUG Golf Event

November,4th 2023, Naivasha…James Mureu from Naivasha has triumphed as the overall winner of the NCBA-sponsored Saturday Monthly Mug at Naivasha Sports Club in Nakuru county.

Playing off handicap 6, Mureu, carded an impressive score of 76 Gross at the tourney that brought together over 70 golfers from Naivasha and its environs.

“I want to commend NCBA and the Naivasha Sports Club for the excellent management of this tournament, the weather was favorable and the grounds well-manicured which I believe is why I was able to play some really good golf and convert those blessings into the rewards received today” said James Mureu, Overall winner at the Naivasha Mug Event.

Claiming the top prize in the Ladies category was Tabitha Kiragu with 36 stableford points ahead of fellow peer Grace Gathungu who settled for 1st runners up with 27 points but also won the prize for the Longest Drive Women, with 2nd runners falling to Janet Mwangi who made it with 25 points.

In the Men’s category, Boniface Kangangi fended off stiff competition from his fellow clubmate Isaac Kamau emerging the winner with 37 points with a 1-point difference. Jonathan Kiplagat just clinched the 2nd runner-up position from Micheal Mugo with 35 points on countback.

Meanwhile, claiming the Guests’ 1st prize was Margaret Wanjiru with 37 points with a handicap of 37 and Samual Keigi came in 2nd for the prize with 37 points but with a handicap of 31.

“Golf is a sport that instills great discipline and garners comradery and sportsmanship among those you play in a 4 ball with. The Naivasha NCBA Monthly Mug tournament marks the 9th edition of this tournament where players from different clubs get to qualify and compete at the NCBA grand finale in December where players can stand a chance to win a cash prize of KSH 100,000 and a variety of trophies and awards. Thus far the tournament has been held in Mombasa, Machakos, Ruiru, Nakuru, Thika, Eldoret, and Nyeri.
