“Well, it was fine; the first nine was good, I was two under in the first nine but the second nine was quite tough. I ended up making a few bogeys and doubles (bogeys) and ended up playing one over. My target was to play in the 60s, but I started being too aggressive with my birdie putts and I ended up making bogeys,” said Kanana after the 18th hole.

The boys’ 11-year category was the only competition decided via a playoff after Aarin Wabwire and Gitonga Gitobu tied on 84 points. Wabwire was calm in the playoff to beat Gitobu in the first playoff hole.

“It was a good day; I didn’t play well on some holes but overall, I played well. It was just careless mistakes that I made,” said Wabwire.

Wabwire said he was scared of the playoff because Gitinga is a very good opponent who is playing well. He claims he won by sheer luck.

On his play in the playoff, he said “first shot was well, I was confident, second shot I went on the green, but when I saw my opponent was close to me, I got a bit scared. The third shot was not a good putt, but the fourth shot it went in.”
