NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Kenya internationals Patrick Oboya and Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi have blamed lack of solid sponsorships by clubs as the main cause of alleged match fixing in the FKF Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

They are now appealing to the Government and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to move swiftly to find a solution to the alleged menace.

On Monday, FKF suspended Mathare players Lennox Ogutu and Alphonce Ndonye for allegedly being involved in football malpractices in the ongoing top tier league.

“Many local clubs are poor, they don’t pay players wages,” Omondi told Standard Sports. You can’t blame the players for this when they go for a whole year without  salaries.

“They are humans too, they have dependants, when they lack a proper source of income they will be tempted to use all means to make ends meet,” Omondi underlined.

Omondi and Oboya were speaking in Nairobi on Thursday during a ceremony to honour Mozzart Bet Gurumisha Ndege Uwahi Dinga Na Aviator promotion winners.

The contest that began on December 26 was won by Ibrahim Mohamud of Mandera and Princess Aluko of Kakamega. The duo were each awarded with a Proton Saga vehicle for their feat.

“I’m happy beyond measure, I’m planning to use this car as a cab to earn me extra revenues,” Aluko who is a student at Kaimosi Teachers College told Standard Sports.

“For those who were not lucky in this round, kindly continue playing the Aviator game, you never know when you might strike the jackpot,”  Aluko,25, added.

Mozzart Bet Kenya Marketing Manager, Frank Ochieng said they will award one more car next month.

“We are always committed to bringing these exciting promotions to our clients.

“We are also grateful that Simba Corp Motors Limited agreed to partner with us in this competition,” Ochieng underscored.

While urging their customers to continue playing the online casino contest, Mozzart Bet Deputy Country Director Wakai Akino stated: “Today, we are very happy to reward our loyal customers who were lucky winners in this promotion.

“It is through their  unwavering support that we have been able to avail them of such high level competitions to contest.

“We also have Corporate Social Responsibility activities involving donation of medical equipment, so far 33 hospitals across the country have been beneficiaries.

“We also have the borehole drilling project which helps to gift Kenyans in arid and semi arid areas with clean drinking water.”

Meanwhile, both Oboya and Omondi are happy with their new roles as head coach and assistant tactician, in that order, at the South B All Stars FC which is plying trade in the FKF Division Two League.

Omondi says he was forced to embrace coaching after picking a left knee injury at KPL side Tusker FC three years ago.

“The injury has been nagging, so I thought of the best way I can serve  in football and coaching came to mind.

“I have so far done the CAF level D licensing as I continue to progress in my new role in the game.

“Football is a huge industry that can benefit us all so I don’t regret not being able to step on the pitch to play competitive football again,” says Omondi.

Both Omondi and Oboya admitted that coaching has its fair share of pressure but they are glad that the side they are managing is yet to taste defeat in the new season in which they have played two matches; drawing one and winning the other.
