Wamakau Crowned Post-Connected Africa 2024 Golf Tournament Champion

NAIROBI, Kenya- Muthaiga Golf Club’s Nduku Wamakau playing handicap 33 was on Saturday evening crowned the winner of the Post-Connected Africa Summit 2024 Tournament at her home’s Par 71 course.
The golfer carded an impressive round of 44 points to claim the spot, one point ahead of her nearest challenger, handicap 18 Silas Gitari, who ended the round with a haul of 43 points to claim the tournament’s runner up position. Michael Njuguna, playing handicap 19, was third with 42 points.
The trio beat a record field of 300 golfers led by ICT Authority’s Chairman, Hon. Sylvanus Maritim who turned up for the tournament. This number was an exceptional participation compared to other tournaments held at the course this year, as pointed out by the Club’s Vice Captain, Erick Malonza.
In the ladies’ category, handicap 28 Rita Njeru, was the crowned winner after she carded a round of 39 points while handicap 28 Ken Njihia, carded 41 points to take home the men winner award. Handicap 25 Joel Mageto from Postal Corporation of Kenya bagged the Guest Winner Award in the tournament which hosted guests from the ICT Industry.
The Connected Africa Summit Golf Tournament is held every year as part of the summit and is organized under the auspice of the ICT Authority of Kenya.
Speaking at the event, Stanley Kamanguya, CEO, ICT Authority said, ‘‘I want to thank everybody for the incredible support and collaboration that you continue to extend to the ICT Authority and also to the planning, execution of the Connected Africa Summit 2024. We particularly had a very successful summit this year. We scaled the summit into a continental summit, we had delegates across Africa and beyond, and this would not have been possible without the support that we received from our sponsors and partners.’’ ‘‘We believe that our country Kenya is now ripe to lead the charge towards the digital transformation for the continent and we are very clear on how we are going to accelerate the digital transformation for our country and also set up Kenya as a true technology hub,’’ added Kamanguya.
The tournament was sponsored by key summit’s partners Telkom Kenya represented by the Head of Regulatory affairs; Stella Wawira, Danco and Pavicon Group led by CEO Sachin Dhanani and NCBA Bank led by Group CEO John Gachora who lauded the good attendance of the Connected Africa Summit 2024 and assured continued collaboration between NCBA and the ICT Authority.
The golfers were invited to participate in the Connected Africa Summit 2025 golf tournament.
