Mashuuru Sports Foundation held its second edition of the Media Cup in Kajiado County on Saturday.
The highly charged football showdown, battled by over 20 teams, was won by the Radio Africa Group (Classic FM brand) who went home Sh50,000 richer.
Second placed were the Icons FM who lost to the winners on penalty shootouts. Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) finished in third place.
Standard Group PLC, the only team to feature two ladies in their squad, namely Mellanie Mwangoo and Lopez Atieno, were rewarded with the Fair Play Award.
Apollo Ambani of Classic FM/Radio Africa Group bagged the Most Valuable Player award after finding the back of the net seven times.
For his achievement, Odongo was rewarded with a Jambo Jet return ticket to either Kisumu or Mombasa destinations.
Away from football, the teams also participated in basketball and tennis. Participants were also offered free accommodation during the event, even though this was sparingly used due to tough transport logistics hitches involving return trip to Nairobi on Sunday.

While savoring her experience from the weekend media football showdown Mwangoo noted: “This was a great tournament. I don’t take it for granted. I learned, I explored, I interacted with friends and more so helped me to discover my purpose in life.
” I can’t wait for another priceless experience like the one I had in Mashuuru. Long Live Mashuuru!”
Tournament organisers have pledged to make the third edition of the championship bigger and better next year.
