Betika Announces Sponsorship Boost For Karamoja Supercup; Chris Oguso Cup

NAIROBI, Kenya – Leading Kenyan bookmaker Betika, through its community engagement initiative, Betika Na Community, will once again partner with the annual Karamoja SuperCup and the Chris Oguso Cup, both slated for late December in Kakamega and Vihiga Counties respectively.

The Karamoja SuperCup is a community-based football tournament established in 2019 by sports promoter Bramwel Karamoja and dedicated to fostering community spirit, celebrating talent, and nurturing aspiring footballers. This year will mark a milestone fifth edition and will take place on December 28th, 2023, at Samitsi Grounds in Malava Sub- County, Kakamega County. With an average attendance of over 15,000 enthusiastic fans, the tournament has successfully united communities, showcasing exceptional skills while emphasising its theme of “Using Sports to Empower the Community.”

Said Bramwell Karamoja, commenting on this year’s tournament:

Betika is thus proud to partner with this annual event through its Betika Na Community initiative, which extends beyond financial support. The initiative has provided essential football equipment and kits to over 100 teams within Kakamega County, amplifying opportunities for aspiring players.

The tournament has grown over the years, with an increase in team participation. The first edition had 16 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams, while the second edition expanded to 32 men’s teams and maintained 8 women’s teams. The third edition grew to 32 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams, and the fourth edition continued with 32 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams. The upcoming fifth anniversary edition will be the biggest yet, with 56 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams set to participate.

The winners’ rewards have consistently increased over the years. The first edition winners received Kshs. 50,000/-, while the second edition winners claimed Kshs. 200,000/-. The third edition winners earned Kshs. 350,000/-, which was also the prize money for fourth edition winners. Betika is committed to rewarding talent and dedication as evidenced by these increasing rewards for tournament winners.

The amounts that the winning teams for the milestone 5th Edition winners will be announced in due course.

The Karamoja SuperCup is more than just a football tournament, it also aims to create unforgettable moments. In 2020, the winners, Mugai FC, had the opportunity to showcase their skills in Nairobi against Gogo Boys, facilitated by Betika Na Community. This experience was a pivotal moment for the Mugai FC players, some of whom experienced their first-ever flight and created lasting memories in their football journey.

The Karamoja Super Cup also serves as a talent incubator, aiming to propel the best talents from Kakamega County into higher leagues or securing sports scholarships abroad. Success stories include players like Hanif Wesonga who went from grassroots football to earning a call-up to the Harambee Stars after featuring for Samitsi FC. Notable personalities such as top-tier coaches and influential figures like Allan Wanga, Mathews Okomax, and Kriss Darlin have lent their support and mentorship in the past, further enriching the tournament’s impact on aspiring footballers.
