Noc-K Executive Board Briefs Media Ahead Of Historic Visit
NAIROBI, Kenya- The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K), led by President Dr. Paul Tergat, held a significant media briefing this morning in anticipation of the committee’s visit to Paris, France. With only 249 days until the much-anticipated Games, the NOC-K Executive Board aims to assess the city’s preparedness for the historic event.
The Paris Management team, headed by Chief de Mission Shadrack Maluki, is set to depart for Paris tonight for a week with a multifaceted mission. This includes engaging in diplomatic meetings at the Embassy, inspecting venues for 2024 Olympic Activities, and a visit to the Miramas Camp.
Notable areas on the itinerary, include Stade de France (Athletics and Rugby venue), iconic public spaces such as the Eiffel Tower (hosting Beach Volleyball), and Pont d’Alene Invalides (marathon finish). The visit will also feature crucial discussions on accreditation, protocol, ticketing, and a comprehensive inspection of accommodation distributed throughout the city.
As the week concludes, Chief de Mission Maluki will host a dinner for key stakeholders in Paris: The Kenyans residing in Paris. These stakeholders, vital in supporting Team Kenya, will contribute through ticket purchases and experience Kenyan hospitality at the Kenya House – the hub for watch parties, Nyama Choma, meet-and-greet sessions, and fostering the NOC-K Family’s support.
The visit will culminate in a trip to Miramas, where Team Kenya will have its Pre-Camp ahead of the Olympics. Currently, sports shooting and Taekwondo have already commenced their camps in Miramas.
Dr. Paul Tergat emphasized the importance of this visit, stating, “As a former athlete, I know how crucial early preparations are. We are proud to lead this journey and particularly thrilled by the qualification of our Rugby 7s men and Malkia Strikers.”
The Secretary-General provided an update on the progress, revealing that 35 athletes from athletics have been entered into the system. Athlete Representative Humphrey Kayange, hosting the 2023 Athlete Forum at the same venue, expressed excitement for the Paris Olympics, highlighting the athletes’ dedication to qualification and the management team’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and successful Paris 2024.
