World Drift King Daham Takes Rally Enthusiasts Through Thrilling Dare-Devil Lessons At The KICC
NAIROBI, Kenya- World Drift Racing King Ahmad Daham took hundreds of Kenyan rally enthusiasts through memorable drift racing lessons at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi at the weekend.
It was pure bliss as the participants were immersed in smokes, screeches, swerves, burning car tires and other dare-devil moves that pumped up their adrenaline and left them gasping for air.
The ecstatic wild crowd went wild as they shouted themselves hoarse, most could not believe the spectacle that was unfold in front of their eyes.
“These stunts are out of this world, I have never seen anything like this since I was born,” Jackson Macharia, a rally fan, claimed.
The Dubai-based racer first undertook his students through theoretical lessons in the morning, which centered on the basics of drifting in addition to sharing his experience in the sport, before staging the exhilarating show in his Lexus RC F machine nicknamed Katana (a Japanese word for the sword of the samurai).
The Middle Eastern drifter has been in the country to mentor drifters, tuners, builders and to promote the sport with the end goal of professionalizing it in Kenya.
The Red Bull sponsored athlete said he has been impressed by the local drifting community, stating their level of performance and thirst to learn more about the sport will bore Kenya a world beater very soon.
“Honestly, they are way much better than I expected. There are around three or four drifters who have really shocked me, their skills in the game are beyond reproach they just need a little bit of polishing and they are good to cruise the world,” Daham told Sports Desk.
Apart from the dare-devil showpiece, Daham provided practical lessons to the motorsports students, giving them tips on how to improve their art and craft in drifting.
Daham described the sessions as fulfilling, saying as a drift racing ambassador he is charged with responsibility to pass the lessons to upcoming generations.
“I love to give back to the society. I’m now imparting the lessons leant in the trade in the last 22 years so drifting may grow and expand all over the world.
“Looking at the fan base here today, I think drifting is going to be a huge sport in Kenya. With Red Bull Kenya pushing on, I believe the Car Park Drifting Academy will be a big thing in the country in the years to come,” he stated.
One of the students of the day, Jennifer Malik, thanked Daham and Red Bull for sparking her interest in the sport.
“This is my first time doing drifting and it has been a really amazing experience. We have learned so much from Ahmad.
“He has shown us the tricks and tips in the game. Usually I am a tarmac racer but I think I might move into drifting as well,” Malik, who competes in a Subaru WRX, underlined.
Daham’s other itinerary in the country included a career talk with students at the University of Nairobi, interactions with builders and tuners as well as shooting a film about drifting in various locations in Nairobi and its environs.
