Kenya Hosts 40th Anoca Seminar Of The Secretaries General

Mombasa, Kenya- The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K), is proudly hosting the 40th ANOCA Seminar of the Secretaries General at Sarova Whitesands Hotel in Mombasa after successful bidding in the last edition. This is in line with the NOC-K Executive Board’s strategic plan for bidding and hosting international games and events.

In the seminar, the focus was squarely on the ‘Road to Paris 2024.’ Esteemed delegates converged to deliberate on essential topics, including an insightful overview of the Paris 2024 Olympic Villages and updates on venues. Additionally, discussions revolved around Games Services, arrivals, and departures.

Among the prominent figures in attendance were: ANOCA Secretary-General, Ingr. Ahmed Abou Elgasim Hashim, ANOCA Treasurer, Ingr. Habu Ahmed GUMEL, Ministry of Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, NOC-K President and ANOCA Athlete Representative, Dr. Paul Tergat 1500m legend and IOC member, Kipchoge Keino and ANOCA Athlete Representative, Tegla Louroupe.

At the grand opening ceremony, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Sports, extended a warm welcome to the representatives of all 54 nations gathered in the coastal city of Mombasa. He congratulated NOC-K for its well-deserved hosting of this prestigious event.

“Kenya has rightfully earned its premium placement as a sporting powerhouse within the African and global Olympic Movement, thanks to the hard work of our athletes,” Hon. Namwamba declared. “It is, therefore, befitting for you to come here and do a peer review and speak to the African sporting excellence dream, particularly with an eye on the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games and others, such as our own Africa Games in the same year.”

The Cabinet Secretary assured all participants that the Kenyan government is fully committed to supporting Team Kenya, both financially and with all necessary accommodations to ensure their comfort during the Games.

A notable presence at the seminar was Ferdinand Omanyala, the 100m African and Commonwealth Champion, representing the seven Kenyan athletes who are recipients of the ANOCA Scholarship program:

Throughout the day, the seminar tackled crucial topics such as athlete qualification timelines for Paris 2024, the challenges and concerns faced by NOCs as they approach the Games, and the presentation of NOCs’ challenges to the Paris 2024 team for further guidance and support in meeting approaching deadlines.

The seminar’s second day promises further engaging discussions, with a focus on Ghana Africa 2023, the continent’s commitment to clean sports, and the OlympAfrica initiative.

As we continue this vital journey toward the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we celebrate Kenya’s role as a beacon of sporting excellence and unity within Africa and the global Olympic Movement.
