Cricket Kenya Council SGM Approves Lucrative T20 League Set For November, Appoints Trenk As Interim CEO

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Cricket Kenya (CK) Council held a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Nairobi at the weekend where several key deliberations were made.
The SGM attended by 21 out of the 24 Council members approved the CK T20 League set to bowl off on November 7 at the Nairobi Gymkhana.
“The Council members have now approved and given blessings for the said tournament. The Council has given mandate to the board to make preparations for the event to carry on,” Taita Taveta County Representative Michael Riwa told sportsdesk.co.ke.
The Council also appointed Walter Trenk Mukinginyi as the new CK acting Chief Executive Officer stating: “We acknowledge the serious allegations against CK Staff on compulsory leave, being the CEO and the Development Director.

“It is hereby resolved that a Disciplinary Committee shall be formed, mandated to investigate the allegations and accord the accused persons a fair hearing. The Committee reports its findings and recommendations to the Council within a period of 21 days.”
“It is hereby resolved that Walter Trenk Mukinginyi is appointed as the interim CEO of CK with immediate effect.
“His mandate shall include, but not limited to: Taking of immediate control of all federation operations, assets, records and bank accounts. Securing access to the federations offices and assets, by legal means necessary. Ensuring staff discipline and accountability, and initiating the process for recruiting a substantive CEO. Acting as the primary operational officer under the direction of the elected Board,” Riwa stated.
The Council also rendered a recent vote of no confidence against CK Chairman Manoj Patel as null, void and of no legal effect stating acknowledging Patel as still the federation President.
“He (Patel) still remains the legitimate Chairman of Cricket Kenya,” Riwa said during the meeting which was also graced by former players and legends.
The Council said the terms of all nominated CK Board Members have expired in accordance with Article 12 (f) of the CK Constitution which stipulates the nomination process and tenure of the nominated board members.

In that regard, the Council co-opted 11 new members to the board that included Timothy Ramara (Meru County), Justus Omari (Nyamira), John Wambua (Kakamega),Riwa and Dorcas Nzula (Makueni).
Others are Omole Asiko (Siaya), Joseph Muasya (Machakos), John Karis (Embu), Joyce Mwangi (Muranga), Sarah Mayaka (Lamu) and Meshack Ondiwa (Busia).
Lastly, the Council resolved to disband the Independent Elections Panel (IEP) citing lack of confidence in the outfit.
“It is hereby resolved that the previous IEP is formally disbanded. The Council mandates the appointment of a new, truly independent IEP within the next 30 days.
“This new panel will be solely responsible for conducting a free, fair and credible election for the office of the Vice Chairman in strict compliance with the Constitution,” stated Riwa.
