CAVB Zone 5 Championship: Kenya Pipeline Wallops KCCA
KIGALI, Rwanda- Kenya Pipeline thrashed KCCA of Uganda 3-0 in the women’s contest at the ongoing CAVB Zone 5 Volleyball Championship in Kigali, Rwanda on Wednesday evening.
Pipeline won the first set 25-19, the second set 25-15, and the third 25-21 to increase their chances of winning the cutthroat tournament.
Top Volleyball clubs from Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya are locking horns at the tournament that is being held in Rwanda for the second time.
The 14-19th November event has attracted 6 men’s teams and 5 women’s teams. Kigali is hosting the premier club showpiece for the second time having hosted the maiden men’s edition in 2019 and now both genders, women playing their first edition.
Federation Rwandaise De Volleyball (FRVB) President Raphael Ngarambe, welcomed members to the championship and wished all the countries a fruitful competition.
CAVB Zone V Championship rebranded from the defunct East and Central Africa Club Championships that was last held in 2007 in Nairobi, the new edition was held in 2019 at the Petit Stadium in Kigali, thereafter COVID-19 took its toll on sports.
“It’s the start of something bigger for the Zone, given the size of our zone, we have to do everything possible to ensure that we are on top of our game and together we can achieve more”. Said Fernand Sauveur Ruterana, President CAVB Zone V.
The championship is being held in a round-robin format with 12 matches for men and 12 contests for women.
Defending Champions Gisagara VC are missing out on the tournament after a player exodus just a few days before the Championship.
