NAIROBI,Kenya-Lilian Odira clocked 2:02:21 to win the women’s 800m race at the Athletics Kenya National Championships trials that concluded at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi on Wednesday.
The feat not only saw her smash her personal best in the category, but book a ticket to the 23rd edition of the African Senior Athletics Championships to be held in Douala, Cameroon from June 22, 2024.
Odira ran the race tactically, outwitting Kalimi Mueni and Sarah Moraa to the coveted gong.
While promising not to let Kenyans down in her continental mission, the Kenya Prisons star stated: “I had an amazing experience in the competition and I’m all set to make things happen at the Africa showpiece.”
Moraa from Kenya Police also qualified for Cameroon by virtue of finishing second.
Moraa started off faster and maintained the lead at the beginning of the race.
Her determination and great potential helped her to register a podium finish.
“I love training with the champions and I’m grateful for everyone who has supported me in this journey.
“I’m wishing all athletes the best in their upcoming races, I’m already motivated to represent Kenya and bring home gold from the African Championships in Cameroon,” Moraa stated.
