Golf: Mutai Wins Amerucan Golf Tournament at Sigona

SIGONA, Kenya- Handicap 27 hard fighter Weldon Mutai fired 43 stableford points to win Amerucan Golf Day tournament at the Sigona Golf Club at the weekend.

He beat home player and handicap 17 Isaac Kariuki on countback in the contest that attracted over 200 players. Handicap 21 player Geoffrey Warukira was third on 38 points.

Speaking after his victory, Mutai stated: “It is such a proud moment for me to be crowned the overall winner of this prestigious championship. The competition was really tough, but I had an amazing group of golfers who pushed me to play better. I am looking forward to upcoming events where I can continue showcasing my talent and skill this year.”

At the same time, handicap 35, Anir Maru, carded 38 points to be named Division Two winner of the tournament while handicap 20, Daniel Mwangi, returned 39 points to claim the guest winner award. Edgar Munene, who played off handicap 12, was the guest runner-up on 37 points.

Paul Wanjohi clinched the second nine winner’s award on 21 points as Mayur Mulji claimed the first nine award after an excellent 22 points.

Seasoned golfer Zipporah Gichigi won the longest drive in the ladies category while Karan J. Patel was the men’s longest drive champion. Mayur Shah was the nearest to the pin winner.

The KCB-sponsored tournament saw handicap 23, James Mucheke awarded best effort after returning 13 stableford points.
