Team Ochola Wins The 2024 Nancy Millar Trophy

NAIROBI, Kenya- Monday, September 23, 2024 – The 2024 Nancy Millar Trophy concluded this past weekend at the prestigious Karen Country Club, with over 120 lady golfers from 16 golf clubs across Kenya competing on the par-72 championship course.

In the closely contested event, the team of Christine Ochola, Rose Catherine, Mary Wainaina, and Nyambura Gitimu emerged as the winners of the tournament, scoring a total of 223 points, narrowly edging out the runners-up team of Ashley Muyela, Amelia Sheikh, Muthoni Kioi, and Zari Njogu, who also finished with 223 points but lost on countback.

In third place, with a commendable score of 222 points, was the team of Sally Davey, Atty Harrison, Rina Hanrahan, and Annie Markham. The fourth position went to the team of Wairimu Maina, Wanjiku Mathu, Wahu Nyairo, and Stella Gathigia, with a total of 220 points.

The Nancy Millar Trophy, a highlight of the Karen women’s golfing calendar, has been an annual tradition since 1970. It honors the legacy of Nancy Millar, one of the founding members of Karen Country Club and a pioneer of women’s golf in Kenya. This year’s tournament attracted participants from prominent clubs including the Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club, Muthaiga Golf Club, and VetLab Sports Club, among others.

Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, Karen Country Club Lady Captain Betty Gacheru praised the high level of competition and sportsmanship displayed by the participants.
