Football: Kempes Hails Junior Stars For Bagging Silver At Cecafa
NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Gor Mahia and Kenya international Sammy Owino “Kempes” has congratulated the national Under 18 soccer team Junior Stars for winning silver at the just concluded East and Central Africa championships in Kisumu.
The Kenyan lads lost 1-2 to Uganda in a pulsating final that lasted 120 minutes.
It was the only defeat Kenya suffered in the tournament that attracted huge turnout of fans.
Kempes who is gunning for the Football Kenya Federation said the performance of the youth team was remarkable and challenged the government to ensure the boys’ talents do not go to waste.
“Congratulations to our remarkable U18 National Football Team, The Junior Stars on finishing 2nd in the 2023 CECAFA U18 Championship,” said Kempes.
He added: “Your outstanding performance, especially considering the short preparation time, is truly commendable.”
“Winning all matches leading to the finals showcases your talent, dedication, and teamwork.”
He said that this achievement is a testament to the boys’ hard work and resilience.
As a word of advice to the boys, Kempes said: “As you move forward, remember that this is just the beginning of your journey. Continue to build on this success, strive for excellence, and aim for continuous improvement.”
“The road to the U20, U23, national teams and eventually to the senior National team Harambee Stars awaits, and your potential is limitless.”
He advised the boys to keep pushing their limits, stay focused and embrace every opportunity to learn and grow.
