President Ruto Hosts CAF President Patrice Motsepe At State House Nairobi

NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto, PhD, received the President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, at State House, Nairobi, after a long tour of Kenya’s sports facilities. This is a timely visit as Kenya steps up its efforts to improve sports infrastructure in the country to meet international standards.

President Ruto reiterated that his administration was committed to promoting sports as a means of empowering the youth and vouching for national pride. Ruto added the intent of the government to make sure that facility levels in the country are of international class and can hold any international tournament. With Kenya set to host CHAN in early next year and AFCON 2027.

“Kenya will be ready to co-host the 2027 AFCON tournament. The preparations of our three stadia-renovation of Kasarani and Nyayo and construction of the brand new Talanta Sports City Stadium-are going on well.” Highlighted President Ruto.

Yesterday, CAF President Motsepe, accompanied by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, toured key sports facilities within the country, among them Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nyayo National Stadium, and upcoming Talanta Sports City.

This tour was to assess Kenya’s progress in upgrading her facilities to meet FIFA-approved standards as the country seeks to be a bigwig player on the continental sports stage.

During the visit, Motsepe expressed his satisfaction at what Kenya has done to upgrade its sportings infrastructures.

“I have seen what is going on and I must say that I impressed by what the government has done. It shows the commitment that Kenya has in ensuring that it successfully hosts this big competition,” said Motsepe.

He added that this would not only boost football but other sporting events and generally develop Kenyan athletics.

The visit by the CAF President happens at the right time, when Kenya is on the verge of hosting continental tournaments. This commitment by the government to develop modern sports facilities is considered a good signal to international sports bodies.

The tour culminated in discussions on further engagements between CAF and the Government of Kenya in capacity building, talent development, and promotion of football and other sports in the country.
