Kenya Junior Golf Team Set For The All-Africa Junior Team Championship

The Kenya Junior Golf Team set for the All-Africa Junior Team Championship to be held between the dates of 22nd-27th April 2025 in Tunisia.

The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Sports Mr. Elijah Mwangi, CBS today at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club flagged off the Kenya Junior Golf Team that is set to participate in the 2025 All Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC), to be held at the Residence Golf Course, Tunisia, from the 22nd to 27th April 2025.

The AAJTC is the top junior golf event in Africa and attracts great competition across the continent. Kenya is fielding a team of 4 boys and a team of 3 girls.  

The Boys’ Team has; 

1.     Junaid Manji – 17 Years – Sigona Golf Club 

2.     Nathan Mwangi – 16 Years – Karen Country Club 

3.     Tsevi Soni – 15 Years – Sigona Golf Club 

4.     Justin Ngeera – 14 Years – Vet Lab Sports Club 

The Girls’ Team has; 

1.     Belinda Wanjiru – 15 Years – Vet Lab Sports Club 

2.     Hazel Kuria – 17 Years – Muthaiga Golf Club 

3.     Audrey Gachora – 15 Years – Muthaiga Golf Club

Coaches: John Van Liefland and C.J Wangai  

The team will be accompanied by; 

1.     Head of Delegation: Vincent Mukiri – JGF President and  

2.     Team Manager: Millicent Mello – JGF Trustee  

The 4 boys and 3 girls were selected from the National Provisional Junior Golf Squad, which consisted of 12 Boys and 10 Girls, based on the squad training and ranking. 

The provisional squad has been in camp for the last 10 months from May 2024 to February 2025, initially training every Tuesday and Thursday and later every Monday and Wednesday from 4.30pm – 6.30pm at the Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club.

The final squad was selected on 27th February 2025 and went into training and course practice three days a week in preparation for the tournament. The players have also participated in the NCBA Kenya Junior Strokeplay Championship and the Kabete Junior Open tournaments helping them with some tournament practice ahead of the AAJTC. 

The team seeks to improve the performance in South Africa, where the Girls Team finished second out of eleven teams while the Boys Team finished fourth out of 15 teams.

The performance in South Africa was a great improvement from 2023 where the Girls finished third and the boys sixth. This year, Kenya is seeking podium finish for both the girls and boys teams in a bid to qualify for the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
