Deaflympics Flag-Off: Team Kenya Pledges To Shatter Records In Tokyo After Government Promises Mouthwatering Goodies

Gold medalists will not only be rewarded Sh 3 million, but they will fly business class on their return to the country from Japan.
NAIROBI, Kenya- Team Kenya for the Tokyo 2025 Summer Deaflympics has pledged to shatter records in Japan following government assurance that they will be equally rewarded like their hearing counterparts.
The State has pledged to reward Sh 5 million for every record broken at the 25th Summer Games that kicks off on Saturday.
For every gold won, Sh 3 million will be given, while silver and bronze will attract Sh 2 million and Sh 1 million in that order.
In addition, all gold medalists will fly Business Class on their return to the country from Japan on November 27.
The pledges were made by the State during the team’s flag-off at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi on Wednesday which was presided over by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi.
“We have prepared well, we have upped our training at Kasarani for the last 21 days, now it’s the time to prove our mettle in the ring,” Team Kenya captain Isaac Atima Tongi stated in his speech.
“We are ready to bring more medals from Tokyo, more than we did in Brazil in 2022,” the skipper declared.
His co-captain, Maureen Awuor thanked the State for the effective residential camp that paneled-beat them into shape.
“We are good, we are in high spirits, we are promising to do well in Tokyo to make Kenya proud,” Auma said.
“We are grateful to the Government and Sports Ministry for the visas, the tracksuits, the bags, the uniforms and all other support received at the camp,” Auma underlined.
Mwangi, who flagged off the team on behalf of Sports C. S Salim Mvurya, told the 180 contingent leaving for Japan to make the country proud.

“We know the camp prepared you well, we are very confident you will surpass the 24-medal haul realized in Brazil,” said Mwangi.
“We want to assure you that you will be granted equal treatment like your hearing colleagues, so go to Japan and do your best, win medals and come with them home, you will be paid.
“The Government has done its work well by supporting you in all departments, the coaches have done their jobs, it’s for you now to give us the performance needed. Kindly, go out there and represent the country with great honor,” Mwangi added.
Team Kenya Chief Executive Officer Dancun Kuria gave assurance that the contingent is well prepared and will execute the task ahead in Tokyo with great precision.
